Slade Point State School has provided numerous camping and excursion experiences over the years.
Camp Fairbairn Dam outside Emerald has been a favourite week long camp for our senior classes for many years. This camping learning experience was held every two years for our year 5 and 6 classes.
Our year 4 class has in the past been offered short 2 day camping experiences up at Eungella School visiting the dairy farms and National Parks up on the Eungella Range an hour from Mackay.
Each year our teachers from all year levels have provided valuable learning opportunities linked to their curriculum units through excursions and/or had special visitors such as the fire department present informative talks at our school.
Our teachers are committed to continue to investigate learning activities external to the school environment and assist with keeping the on-cost to parents to a minimum. Most classes led by their class teacher have participated in fundraising events to help lower the cost of the camp or excursion.
Slade Point community is a beautiful sandy tree-filled area bordering with the Pacific ocean but it is important our students be exposed to other environments and educational sites.
